How to Paint a Photo With Corel Painter Essentials 4
Corel Painter Essentials 4 lets you paint a photo in your own style. You will use the program's Blender Brush to paint the same colors in your photo and Tracing Paper to help you create your own painting.

Find your photo on your computer. Select File menu>Open to find your photo. When the Open File dialogue box appears, browse through your files for your photo. Click "Open."

Activate the tracing paper. Click the "Photo Painting" tab located at the top and to the right of the workspace. Below the Photo Painting tab, you will see the Source Image palette. Click "Use Open Image" on the Source Image palette to enable the tracing paper and to create a new canvas. The Tracing Paper box will have a check mark, and the source image--your photo--will appear on the Source Image palette.

Change the Tracing Paper opacity. Locate the opacity selector to the right of the Tracing Paper check box. Click the arrow to change the opacity to 80%. Increasing the opacity will make the tracing paper appear more opaque, so you can see the painting strokes more clearly. In the workspace, the tracing paper appears more opaque.

Select the Blender Brush. Find the Open Brush Drawer in the tool box located below the Canvas menu. Select the Open Brush Drawer by clicking the arrow icon. Click the Blenders finger icon. Find the Blender Brush by name from the list of brushes and click it.

Paint on the tracing paper in the workspace with your digital pen and tablet. Your painting will appear on a new canvas. Decrease the brush size to paint finer detail. You will find the brush size under the Effects menu. You can also use the zoom tool located at the bottom of the workspace to enlarge your work, particularly if you decide to paint finer strokes. Remove the checkmark from the box next to the Tracing Paper box to view your progress as you paint. Do finishing touches with the tracing paper turned off.

Save your painting. File menu>Save As to save your painting as RIF, JPEG, TIFF, or in another image file format. If you plan to work on the same painting at a later time, save the image as a RIF, Corel's image format, to keep any settings.

Tips & Warnings
To print your painting, increase the canvas size and resolution. Select Canvas menu>Resize to increase in inches the height and width of your painting. Also, increase the resolution to 300 pixels per inch.
