How to Send a Direct Message Tweet on Twitter
Twitter is a community of friends, family members and celebrities from across the world who post "tweets," also known as statuses, to their followers (friends) on Twitter. Twitter is a quick and brief way to let your followers know what is going on or what is happening in your life. With Twitter, you can also communicate with direct messages that only you and whomever you are sending the message to will see.

Log in to your Twitter account.

Click on "Direct Messages" on the right side of your homepage.

Select the person you would like to send a direct message to from the "Send a Direct Message" drop-down menu.

Write your message in the box, and then press "Send."

Tips & Warnings
Some users may not have direct messaging enabled on their Twitter account; you will be unable to send a direct message to these users.
If you do not have a Twitter account, visit the website and sign up with a valid email address. Twitter is free.

Thanks for the easy instructions. Now a question. Not all the people I follow show up in the Direct Message drop down menu. How can I send a DM to someone not in that drop-down list? -

Caution, use DM's sparingly. Don't overuse this feature or people will stop following ( or worse - report you as a spammer).
