Your phone may not recognize a new cellphone tower.

If you're tired of dropping calls on your Verizon cellphone, or having little to no signal, you can improve the signal on your Verizon phone. The easiest way to improve your signal is to use Verizon's auto update service to update your roaming capabilities. In severe cases, it may be necessary to use an external cellphone antenna.

Instructions

    • 1

Dial *228 from your Verizon phone. Press "Send."

    • 2

Choose option 2 from the audible menu, which is "Update Your Roaming Capabilities."

    • 3

Let the update run all the way to the end. You will be notified when the update is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Verizon recommends running the update every three months. The auto update is especially helpful when traveling in areas where you typically do not use your phone.

  • If the above steps do not improve your Verizon cellphone signal, you may need an external antenna. If this is the case, you will need both a phone that has an external antenna port and an actual external cellphone antenna.
