1. Begin the food stamp or SNAP application process by visiting the Louisiana DSS web site and downloading the food stamp application form at:

2. Return the food stamp (SNAP) application form to your local DSS office. You can find your nearest DSS office by going to the following web address:

   Be sure to be as accurate as possible on your food stamp application.

3. Once your application is approved, you will receive your SNAP benefit card. It will work almost like a debit card (but for food stamps). Be sure to make sure it is working by purchasing a small quantity of food with it.
