How to Print a Bill for Services

Having and running your own business can be freeing and liberating, but it also involves lots of work and maintaining mountains of paperwork. As a service business, it is important to provide your customers with a bill so that they, and you, can have a record of services provided. If you are just starting your business or are looking for a new way to generate bills for services rendered, it is quite easy to do. All you need is the right software program.

Download a service invoice template inside of Microsoft Word. Open Word and start a new document. Click on "File" and then "New" if you are using a version of Word that is 2003 or earlier. If you are using Word 2007, click the "Office" button before clicking "New." Click on the "Invoice" category, and choose one of the service invoices. Click "Download."

Edit the invoice to suit your business. Add your company and client information in the assigned areas. Insert your company's logo in the logo image boxes.

    • 3

Add the invoice details. Fill in the boxes for salesperson, job, payment terms, date, quantity, description, unit price and line total. Add the individual services rendered on their own line on the invoice.

    • 4

Calculate the subtotal, add the sales tax and calculate the overall total. Add these amounts in the boxes at the end of the invoice table.

    • 5

Send the invoice to the printer. Click on the "Printer" icon on the Standard toolbar (Microsoft Word 97 to 2003) or on the Quick Access toolbar (Word 2007). Add paper to your printer if there isn't any there.

    • 6

      Save and close the invoice.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will not have to download the invoice every time you want to use it. You can just open the template again for a blank invoice.

  • Save your template after adding your company information and logo so that you won't have to do this each time you do a bill for a client.

  • You can also download templates from the Microsoft Office website (see Resources).
