How to Convert USB to PS/2 for Keyboards
PC keyboards and mice use two types of connection interfaces. USB is the most common and is universally accepted by every computer. The other type, PS/2, is an older standard and has been phased out. Many computers and laptops do not include PS/2 inputs anymore, making it seem as if you cannot connect a PS/2 keyboard to your computer. However, a solution does exist. You can connect your PS/2 keyboard to your computer via a USB adapter.

1
Insert the PS/2 to USB adapter into the USB port on your computer. Most computers have multiple USB inputs, so find the one that is best situated to give you the most comfortable keyboard position and where the keyboard cable will not be in the way.

2
Connect the PS/2 cable from the keyboard to the PS/2 input on the adapter. Ensure that all connections are secure.

3
Turn on your computer. When your computer recognizes the input device, it automatically downloads and install the drivers. This is referred to as plug-and-play. Once the drivers install, you can use your PS/2 keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
Some older keyboards, such as the IBM Model M, require a PS/2 signal converter, rather than a simple USB adapter. This is because that keyboard uses significantly more power than a regular keyboard and needs to have its connection signals preserved to work properly.
