How to Keep My Mobile Phone Number From Being Identified

With the invention of caller ID, people can now see who is calling before they answer. This has proven to be a convenient way to screen calls or catch important messages. However, some people prefer their identification remain anonymous. If you wish to have your cell phone number blocked and listed "Private," you can do so either on a per-call basis or for all outgoing calls.

Instructions

    • 1

Block your mobile phone number on a per-call basis by dialing "*67" before the phone number you wish to call. There is no charge to keep your number from being identified. The receiver of the blocked call will not be able to see your name or phone number for that specific call only. For example, if you call the same number a few minutes later, you must enter "*67" before dialing the phone number again.

Ask your cellular provider to keep your number private. You can request that the phone company make your phone number private by default, which will affect every call you make from your phone. You would not have to dial "*67" before dialing out. A small fees may apply to activate this feature, although the amount may vary by service provider.

Turn the number-blocking feature off on a per-call basis, if you'd like, if your number is blocked by default. Similar to Step 1, but for the opposite effect, press "*82" before dialing the phone number you wish to call. There is no fee to turn off the blocking service for your number. Your call will go through as usual, although your number and name will show up on the recipient's caller ID.
