How to Connect a DSL Splitter Filter

A DSL splitter filter is a small device used to connect your DSL modem to your phone line. This device eliminates the line noise caused by your DSL service. Without a filter, you'd hear a high-pitched, scratchy noise that would make it difficult to talk on the phone. Most high-speed Internet services provide a DSL splitter filter with your modem, or you can purchase a splitter filter at electronics retailers.

Instructions

Using a Dual Stand-Alone Filter

1. Connect the DSL splitter into your wall's phone jack. The DSL splitter's clip will snap if inserted correctly.

2. Plug the DSL cable into the jack labeled "DSL/HPNA" on the DSL splitter; connect the other end to the modem's port labeled "DSL Phone."

3. Plug the phone cable into the jack labeled "Phone" on the DSL splitter; plug the other end into your phone.

Using a Y-Adapter

1. Plug the Y-adapter into your wall's phone jack. Plug the single stand-alone filter into either port on the Y-adapter.

2. Plug your phone's cable into the single stand-alone filter port.

3. Plug your DSL modem's cable into the available port on the Y-adapter.
