Instructions

    • 1

Preheat your oven to a 400 degrees F.

    • 2

Select yams that are approximately the same size if you will be cooking more than one in the oven.

    • 3

Wash the yams thoroughly under running water and dry them with paper towels.

    • 4

Pierce the yams in two or three places with a fork.

    • 5

Bake in the oven on a cookie sheet or baking dish for approximately one hour. You can tell the yam is done when a fork goes into it easily.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place each yam on an individual plate and let each person add butter, nutmeg, nuts, cinnamon or brown sugar if they desire. Many people prefer to just add butter since the yam is sweet enough by itself; others prefer to dress it up like a dessert with maple syrup and honey and enjoy it that way.
