How to Record the Metronome in Digital Performer
The Digital Performer software has a built-in metronome that can be used as a click-track for recording or practicing music. The program designed the metronome tool to be a separate entity from the recording tracks. This allows the user to click a button and utilize the metronome. With just a few commands, you can record the metronome to a separate track and it will be yours forever.

1
Open Digital Performer and create a new "Empty" project. Press Shift+Command+S to create a new stereo track. Alternatively, you can use the "Project" pull-down menu by clicking "Project," then "Add Track," then "Stereo Audio Track."
-
2
Double-click the metronome icon on the right side of the Control Panel. This opens the Metronome options menu. Under "Type of Click" select "Audio." On the right-side of the window are the "Audio Click" options. Here you can select the output, the type of sound, and the volume of your metronome. "Accented" is for the downbeat and "Normal" is for the other beats. The black knob to the right changes the volume of the sound.

3
Click on the "Built-In Output 1-2" bar. Select "New Stereo Bundle" then "Bus 1-2." This sends the audio signal of the metronome to an independent track that can be recorded.
-
4
Go back to the "Sequence" window. The left side of the track holds the options for input and output. Depending on the type of interface you are using, the second bar signifies the output. Directly below you can select the input. Choose "Bus 1-2." The input of the track should now be aligned with the audio output of the metronome.
-
5
Click the record icon above the input/output selectors (second from right) and enable the metronome by single-clicking the icon in the control panel. Press "Record" on the control panel to start the recording. As the recording progresses, the waveform will appear in the sequence window.

Tips & Warnings
Computers can be fickle. Constantly and consistently save your work (Command+S).
The metronome has to be recorded at a reasonable level. If it is clipping, turn down the volume in the metronome options menu. If it is too low, turn up the volume.
You can use your own sound for the metronome by selecting "Choose File..." in the pull down bar and checking the metronome sound options.
If you do not want an accented click, set the "Normal" volume to the same as the "Accented."
Be careful when you are changing options in Digital Performer. If you are not sure what it does, leave it alone. The program options are optimized for general use.
