How to Register an Avid Microchip

Avid Identification Systems, Inc., is a manufacturer of microchips used to identify pets. Avid maintains PETtrac, a nationwide database of animals implanted with the company's microchips that is accessible by law enforcement authorities, veterinarians, shelters and kennel clubs across the country. Registering your Avid microchip is a short process that you can complete in just a few steps.

Instructions

1. Call the Avid PETtrac information center at [phone].

2. Choose option 5 from the automated menu or dial extension 2007.

3. Provide the customer service representative with all the required information, including your microchip number, your contact information and a description of your pet.

4. Pay the registration fee. As of 2010, Avid charges a one-time fee of $19.95 to register one of its microchips in the PETtrac system. Avid accepts credit cards, debit cards, checks and money orders.

Tips & Warnings

• Update your pet's information regularly. If you move or acquire a pet that already has a microchip containing the original owner's information, call the Avid PETtrac database as soon as possible to ensure your pet's safe return if it is lost.
