How to Get Rid of Runtime Errors
You often see runtime errors when using Windows with Internet Explorer, and it usually happens when you're browsing a webpage. Be aware that it doesn't mean you have to do a lengthy repair or take your computer to a professional repair person. It just means that you've run into a coding error on a webpage--perhaps as the result of bad code on your own page--or maybe benign spyware. Remove that pesky runtime error message off your screen using a couple of easy procedures.
Instructions
-
Stopping Runtime Errors
-
1
Open Internet Explorer on your desktop. Click on "Tools" in the upper menu and then "Internet Options."
-
2
Select "Advanced" and look at the box showing multiple options that can be activated with a green check mark by clicking a little white box to the left.
-
-
3
Scroll down until you see the message "Disable Script Debugging"--one for Internet Explorer and the next for "Other" underneath. Both "Internet Explorer" and "Other" are in parentheses.
-
4
Click into the white boxes to the left of each one so the green check mark appears.
-
5
Press "OK" at the bottom, and the runtime error messages shouldn't ever appear again when you use Internet Explorer.
Alternatives
-
6
Run your virus software to see if you have any spyware on your computer. A lot of spyware is fairly benign, but can create a slight flaw in a website's code--thus bringing on a runtime error box.
-
7
Check the settings on your security software. Sometimes if you have security set to a high level, it'll prevent certain sites from running Java, for instance, and create a runtime error.
-
8
Consider right-clicking on your mouse, selecting "Properties," choosing "Advanced" and disabling Error Reporting. Find "Disable Error Reporting" in the Advanced box and click the white box to disable. Choose the option next to the Disable Error Reporting to have Windows alert you only if any critical errors occur.

Tips & Warnings
While less common in Firefox, runtime errors can still occur on that browser. To prevent it from happening again, merely uninstall and reinstall Firefox on your computer.
If you're getting runtime errors on your own website, it's a sign of a critical problem in your code that you'll have to fix. Otherwise, all people who go to your website will get a runtime error and perhaps leave.
