How to Repair a Boat Prop
A boat propeller, or prop for short, is responsible for thrusting the boat forward. It does this by using the engine's power to propel the boat forward. If you are able to fix your own boat propeller, you will be able to take care of much of the maintenance required to keep a boat in working order.

1
Check your blades. If there are nicks on them, remold your propellers. When you first get your boat, take the propellers to a boat supply store and have them make a mold or give you a mold kit. Follow the manufacturer's directions to make the mold. Use this mold time after time as you inspect your boat.

2
Mold your propeller. Each manufacturer has different specifications on how to use the mold. Follow these directions.

3
Balance your propeller. If you do not notice any nicks, but seem to have propeller issues, get it balanced. Balancing can only be done by a licensed technician at your local boat repair facility.

4
Check the hub. If your boat is at a standstill, even when you are pushing the gas, it may be a hub problem. Install a new propeller to cure this problem. Follow the manufacturer's directions for information.
