How to Delete Windows Mail

Windows Mail is the default email client included with Microsoft Windows Vista. Like Outlook Express before it, it is baked into the system, and Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to completely uninstall the application. If you've found a better email client to suit your needs and want to delete Windows Mail, your best bet is to disable the application, cutting off all access to it.

Instructions

    • 1

Type "regedit" into Window's Start menu Search box. Hit "Enter" to launch the Registry Editor.

    • 2

Click "Continue" if Vista's User Account Control prompts you to allow permission.

    • 3

Navigate to the registry entry: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft.

    • 4

Right-click on "Microsoft" and select "New" > "Key." Type "Windows Mail" and hit "Enter" to label the new key. If there is already an entry for Windows Mail, skip this step.

    • 5

Highlight the newly created "Windows Mail" registry entry in the left pane. Right-click an empty space within the corresponding right-side pane. Select "New" > "DWORD (32-bit) Value." Enter "ManualLaunchAllowed" and hit "Enter" to label this new DWORD entry.

    • 6

Close the Registry Editor. Restart the computer. Access to Windows Mail will be cut off. To completely remove traces of the program, delete the entries in the Start Menu and Programs folder.
