How to Teach Group Piano Lessons
The piano is an instrument of sophistication, and it takes a lot of practice to know the instrument thoroughly and precisely. The piano has been used for musical entertainment for centuries in various forms, such as the harpsichord. Teaching group piano lessons is a great idea for beginners and masters of the piano because it allows for some diversity in lessons and the ability to become a better pianist when others are allowed to voice their opinions and learn together.

1
Obtain a studio or designate a large area to designate to group lessons. This will provide a more structured environment for your students and allow you to keep all of your teaching materials in one spot.
-
2
Keep your classes limited to five people at a time. This will allow for individual instruction if needed, and it will not allow for a lot of chaos and confusion.
-
-
3
Take turns with the students at the real piano, and have the rest of the students follow along at their own keyboards.
-
4
Prepare ahead of time what you will teach and/or review for each class. If you are teaching children, choose some games that will make the learning experience more enjoyable.
-
5
Hold a master class where students can congregate and play for each other. Have the students comment on each performance including the positives and the areas where they believe the performer needs to practice a bit more. Offer your professional opinion as well in a constructive manner.

Tips & Warnings
If parents are involved and you have a large age difference in your classes, then consider taking on more than five students. Do not exceed 10 students per class as individuals may not receive adequate attention and instruction.
