1
Place a small amount of baking soda into the bucket. The amount of baking soda should be between one quarter cup to one half cup, depending on the area of the hardwood floor to be cleaned with natural cleaners. A ten foot by ten foot area, for example, should require a quarter cup of baking soda.

2
Add tap water to the baking soda. The amount of water should be about one quart. When the water and baking soda mix, it may cause a little fizzing. This is normal.

3
Add about one half cup of vinegar. The mixture will fizz and bubble- be sure your bucket is large enough that the mixture doesn't bubble over! Another trick to avoid bubbling over is to add the vinegar slowly. The amount of vinegar is not dependent upon the amount of baking soda or water already added, though, if more baking soda has been added, you can add more vinegar. This is the mixture to be used to clean hardwood floors with natural cleaners.

4
Place the mop or sponge into the mixture and wring out so that the mop or sponge is wet but not dripping. Use the mop or sponge to scrub the hardwood floor. Repeat the process until the entire hardwood floor is cleaned with natural cleaners.

5
Use a cotton towel to wipe the wet floor, if desired. Occasionally the natural cleaners mixture may cause water spots to stay on the floor after cleaning. The water spots are harmless, but they aren't that pretty to look at! If this is the case, use the cotton towel to wipe the wet floor to avoid water spots.
