Use the information you obtain to sell your house yourself online or to estimate how home improvements, such as adding an extra bathroom or a patio, might affect your home's resale value. Walk or drive around your neighborhood to find homes that have "For Sale," "Under Agreement" or "Sold" signs on the exterior. Watch the "For Sale" signs; those are the ones that haven't sold yet. "Sold" and "Under Agreement" indicate recent home sales.

Input your street address, city and zip code into the appropriate fields at Domania.com, a free database of home sales that shows the sale date and price. The maximum radius is two miles from your home, but you can reduce this to one-half mile or one mile.

Review the listings of recent sales which pop up under the "Neighborhood Comparable Sales" tab. You can also easily view homes that are listed for sale in your area by clicking on the "Homes for Sale" link.

Search for recent home sales by address and location at Trulia.com. This database allows you to search both "for sale" and "recently sold" properties by selecting one of two search fields at the top of the page.

Select the type of property, price range, number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Click the "search" button and wait for Trulia.com to find your results.
