How to Remove Car Emblem Adhesive

Dealerships almost always embellish their automobile inventory with plastic emblems meant to market the dealership. Many car owners remove them as soon as possible. Unless attached with pins, most emblems can be removed by simply heating up the emblem with a blow dryer until the adhesive becomes tacky enough to pull the emblem from the car panel, however, a sticky adhesive residue is often left behind that can damage the finish of the car unless removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply adhesive remover, such as 3M, to the end of a soft rag.

    • 2

Brush the adhesive remover over the top of the residue and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes.

    • 3

Gently rub the residue with the rag to remove the adhesive from the panel. Make sure you keep the residue moist while rubbing so you do not scratch the finish of the car.

    • 4

Wash the area well with dishwashing soap and water to ensure no adhesive remover remains on the car.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the emblem has been in place on the car for a while, you will need to polish the removal area in order to achieve a properly blended look to the paint. In severe cases, wet sanding may be required.

  • Wear gloves when working with adhesive remover.
