How to Apply for a DEA License

If you are interested in prescribing or giving out medication, you are going to need to obtain a DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) license first. Obtaining the license involves an application process, the right qualifications, and a fee. Once the application has gone through successfully, you will receive your DEA license.

Instructions

      Visit the DEA's Office of Diversion Control website, listed as a Resource below, to fill out your application for a DEA license.

      Have your Social Security Number, registration information, medical license information, and a credit card to pay with before you begin filling out the application.

      Select the form based on the category you are applying under. These categories include practitioners, manufacturers, those working with chemicals, and those working at treatment clinics.

      Select the more specific business activity beneath one of the original four categories. This activity will determine the amount of time the license will be good for and how much it will cost. The cost can be as little as $184 for someone working at a detox clinic, to over $2,000 for someone who manufactures chemicals.
