How to Clean the Cache in Windows XP

Caches in computers are small memory circuits that act as a bridge between a computer's microprocessor and its RAM. Caches help to speed up memory access by their close physical proximity to the computer processor and by the small bits of information that is stored within the cache's memory banks. Caches continue to save more information unless periodically cleaned out. Over time, this build up of information will slow down the speed at which a computer starts up and functions.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button.

2. Select the "Control Panel."

3. Open "Internet Options."

4. Click on the "General" tab and click the "Delete" button.

5. Ensure that the "Temporary Internet Files" and "Cookies" boxes are check marked. Click the "Ok" button to clean the cache.
