How to Install Windows XP Using DOS Commands
While the typical method for installing Windows XP is to use the built-in installer that comes on the disks, there is another way. It is entirely possible to install your copy of Windows XP using nothing but DOS commands. The only thing you will need (besides your copy of Windows XP) is an MS-DOS boot disk, allowing your computer to load up to a DOS prompt without loading into an operating system.

Insert your MS-DOS boot disk in the drive and reboot the machine.

Press any key when indicated by the startup messages to boot from the disk, taking you to a DOS prompt.

Type in "X:" and press "Enter" at the command prompt (where "X" is the drive letter of your CD drive).

Type "cd i386" and press "Enter." This will open up the "i386" directory on the installation disk.

Type in "winnt" and press "Enter." This will start the installation process.

Enter in the location to which you want the files to be installed and press "Enter." For example, "C:\i386" would install the files to the "i386" directory on the "C" drive.

Follow the remainder of the on-screen commands (e.g. pressing "Enter" when indicated to reboot the computer) to complete the installation.
