Microsoft's WAV proprietary audio format is widely used because it is common throughout the PC world and will play on almost any media player. So if you want to be compatible with PCs as well as Macs, it's easier to have all your audio formats (such as MP3 and AIFF) converted over to WAV.

Step 1

Go to the "Applications" folder and double-click on the "QuickTime 7" Pro icon.

Step 2

Go to the QuickTime File menu at the top of the screen and select "Open File" from the drop-down menu. Select the audio file and click "Open" to load in the file. This will bring up a small horizontal QuickTime window with the name of the song at the top.

Step 3

Select the "File" menu at the top of the screen again and then select "Export" from the window that appears.

Step 4

Select "Sound to Wave" from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

Click the "Save" button and save the WAV file to the hard drive.
