How to Upgrade a Notebook Processor
Your processor is the primary component of your notebook computer. Your processor acts as the brain of your notebook and is used in almost all of its functions and processes. You may wish to upgrade your notebook processor to something more powerful so you can run more advanced programs. Replacing components on a notebook computer is considered harder than on a PC. Upgrading your processor on a notebook computer can be achieved through several careful steps.

Buy a new processor for your notebook computer. Make sure your new processor is compatible with your motherboard.

Check that your notebook is running the latest BIOS. Some newer processors may not support older versions, so do this check and update the BIOS, if needed, before you disassemble your laptop.

Turn off your notebook computer and disconnect any peripheral devices, such as mice and keyboards. Of course, unplug the notebook from any power source.

Remove your notebook's faceplate by removing the plastic hinges near its base.

Take off your notebook's keyboard by removing the screws holding it to your notebook's base. There should be a minimum of four screws near the corners of your laptop.

Unscrew and remove the display unit of your notebook computer. There will be several screws near the base of the computer. Remove the screws, then disconnect the Wi-Fi and video cables that connect the display unit to its base.

Remove the faceplate that protects the internal components of your notebook computer. Depending on the brand of laptop, there will either be several screws of several plastic hinges holding it in place.

Unfasten and remove the CPU fan. The CPU fan will be the large fan on the left-hand side of your notebook. It will be held in place by four screws; remove these with care.

Turn the processor's locking screws counter-clockwise to remove your old processor.

Place your new processor into its chamber and turn the locking mechanism clockwise to secure it.

Re-assemble your notebook, and your processor upgrade is complete.
