How to Set Up a Women's Home Gym

Setting up a women's home gym can negate the need for a costly gym membership. A home gym, tailored for women's workouts, is relatively simple and inexpensive to set up. A complete workout can be achieved with little equipment, but adequate room is essential. Common, simple items can be added to facilitate a complete workout. A home gym can make fitness convenient, and convenience leads to regular workouts.

Instructions

  1. Finding the Space

    • 1

Choose an area of the home that has the highest ceilings for a women's home gym. Move furniture and other items to the edge of the area, creating space for equipment and movement. Ideally, this space should be reserved for exercise only, but if the home is small, it might have to be shared with other family activities.

    • 2

Measure needed area by stretching your arms to the side and turning 360 degrees. Do this again, after stepping one step to each side. To do adequate exercise in a home gym, this is the minimum space required for movement. A smaller area can limit the types of exercise done with the suggested equipment.

    • 3

Secure a place for the pen and paper, making sure to leave these items in the home gym area. Written notes will allow you to keep track of your minutes of exercise, number of reps done with each piece of equipment, and the dates you worked out.

    • 4

Place your exercise mat, hand weights, elastic band, exercise ball and jump rope in the home gym area. Leaving the exercise items out helps create a reminder for working out in the gym. If the area is in a family room, a basket or decorative trunk can be used to house the equipment. Place any exercise machines you have in the area. These machines create a constant visual reminder to use them.

    • 5

Test the height of the ceiling for jump rope purposes. If the ceilings are not high enough, this activity might have to be done outside or eliminated during bad weather. Creating a specific space for a home gym increases the number of workouts done and decreases the amount of time and money spent in a fitness club.

Tips & Warnings

  • Simple workouts can be done with no additional equipment.

  • Equipment tends to make the exercise more fun.

  • Make sure you are fit enough to begin an exercise regime.
