How to Repair a Vertical Venetian Blind
Vertical venetian blinds are stylish and functional elements that help complete any home decor. Vertical blinds can be constructed from an assortment of materials, such as wood, aluminum or vinyl. Although these blinds are sturdy, they can malfunction just like anything else; the track can break or slats can break. It can often be cost effective to repair vertical blinds yourself rather than replacing the entire unit. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Slat Malfunction
-
1
Replace the stem that holds the louver or vertical slat in place and the worm gear, which works between the tilt rod and the stem, if the blinds are not working correctly.
-
2
Pull on the metal beaded chain to move the slats into the open position.
-
-
3
Remove the stem with a pair of needle-nose pliers by using a twisting motion against the carrier body and the bottom of the stem. The stem should come out after doing this.
-
4
Take the worm gear out of the carrier body with needle-nose pliers. Make sure the track is open for the gear to be removed.
-
5
Replace the worm gear if necessary with a new piece. Hang onto the gear at the tip, with the teeth facing up, and slide it into place.
-
6
Replace the stem by pushing it in at the bottom. You may need to push on it hard for it to go into place.
Chain Malfunction
-
7
Remove the control end cap with a flat screwdriver if the chain is difficult to operate.
-
8
Look inside where you removed the cap, and there will be a pulley with a metal rod in the middle. Find the round washer with a jagged hole in the center.
-
9
Use the screwdriver to tap the rod lightly to loosen it. The chain should operate correctly.
Cord Malfunction
-
10
Shorten the cord if it is too long by peering inside the headrail and locating the vane carrier where the cord is in a knot.
-
11
Hold the carrier in place with your fingers and pull out the excess cord until the cord safety device is at the correct length.
-
12
Secure a knot in the end at that spot, and cut off excess string with scissors. Operate the blinds to make sure the cord works correctly.
