How to Remove Two-way Carpet Tape
Two-way carpet tape, also known as double-sided carpet tape, is used to hold carpet in place when tack strips and other methods can't be used. Two-way carpet tape is durable and forms a tight bond, but leaves a residue when removed. When removing carpet from a room or area in your home, you don't want to leave behind fragments of carpet tape or tape residue. Things You'll Need
- Adhesive dissolver or butane
- Shop towels or rags
- Nose mask
- Latex gloves
- Paper towels

Pull any remaining fragments of carpet tape slowly from the floor or other surface.

Apply 1 tbsp. of an adhesive dissolver or butane to a shop towel or rag. Wear a nose mask and latex gloves to keep from inhaling the adhesive dissolver or butane and to protect your hands.

Blot the two-way tape and residue with the rag or towel soaked in adhesive dissolver or butane. Do not rub -- this will lead to color transfer.

Reapply adhesive dissolver or butane to the towel or rag.

Continue blotting the tape and residue until it is gone.

If wet, dry the floor or other surface with paper towels.

Before installing another type of flooring, mop the floor with a damp mop or large towel, if possible.

Tips & Warnings
Open the windows and doors to allow air to circulate throughout the room or area. Adhesive dissolver and butane produce an odor.
Keep the adhesive dissolver or butane away from open flames and heat sources -- the chemicals are flammable.
