How to Activate USB 2 Ports

USB 2.0 is the second release of the popular USB port. Although it is almost impossible to tell a USB 2.0 from a USB 1, it does provide a faster data-transfer speed. If you have just connected or installed new USB 2.0 ports into your computer, you need to activate them. The activation gives your computer the information regarding how to run devices off of the ports and what to do with the connected hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the driver installation CD from the packaging that contained your USB 2.0 ports.

    • 2

Insert the driver installation CD into the CD drive of the computer. In a few moments, the USB 2.0 driver installation wizard loads.

    • 3

Follow the brief prompts of the wizard. Leave all of the prompts as the default settings. Changing the default settings can result in the computer losing track of the installation location. If this happens, the computer may not know what to do with the newly installed USB 2.0 ports.

    • 4

Click "Install" and the drivers install onto the computer. Once finished (a window appears stating the driver installation has finished), remove the CD from the computer and begin using your USB 2.0 ports.
