Instructions

    • 1

Cut 6-by-6 landscape timbers using a circular saw to the desired length and width. Timber steps are box-like and look like the letter "U" when assembled.

    • 2

Attach the cut timbers by placing them in a "U" formation and nailing two nails from each side piece to the front of the step.

    • 3

Place angle braces inside the two front corners of the step and secure the braces with screws.

    • 4

Repeat steps 1 through 3 until you have made all of the timber steps.

    • 5

Place the steps where you would like for them to go. You may need to dig into the ground in areas with a heavy degree of sloping in order for them to fit properly. Place the steps on top of each other, pulling each step slightly back as you work your way up the terrain's slope.

    • 6

Use a level to ensure that the steps are even. You may need to place additional dirt underneath the steps to make sure they are level.

    • 7

Secure the steps to one another using 10-inch nail spikes. The nails should be placed in areas where the step is resting on another step. Repeat this process until all steps are connecting on both sides.

    • 8

Fill the center of the U-shaped steps using either dirt or gravel. This will make the steps even more stable.
