How to Lay a Carpet Seam
Indoor and outdoor carpet generally comes in widths of 6 and 12 yards. For rooms larger than these widths, you will have to create carpet seams to cover rooms. Carpet seams that are improperly installed will buckle over time when the two seams are not butted together or the adhesive holding them together was not applied. Be sure that you join the seams correctly to prevent either holes or ridges in your flooring. Does this Spark an idea?

Place double sided tape around the parameters of the room. Leave the protective paper on top of the tape, so you can center the carpet. Allow the carpet to curl up 6 inches up the walls.

3
Press the carpet down to where the floor meets the wall. Use a utility knife to cut vertical cuts into the carpet. Move all around the wall. Overlap the carpet by 2 inches to create a seam.

4
Cut through both pieces. Make sure that they butt up against each other. Remove the paper off the double sided tape. Roll a carpet roller over the carpet to attach the carpet to the adhesive.

Apply seam adhesive to the seams. Butt the seams together and roll the carpet roller over the seams. Tuck the carpet underneath the wall.
