How to Repair Cat Scratches on Vinyl

Having a cat can be a soothing and comforting experience. However, when your favorite pet turns into a pest by sharpening his claws on a favorite vinyl chair or sofa, it may cause you to have second thoughts. Do not despair--there are several ways to fix the scratches without having to throw out the piece of furniture, pull out the nail trimmer, or get your cat declawed.

Things You'll Need

• Vinyl upholstery repair kit
• Cloth
• Mild detergent
• Iron
• Vinyl flooring repair kit
• Masking tape
• Sandpaper

Instructions

Scratches on Vinyl Upholstery

1. Clean the area around the scratch with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

2. Place the iron-on patch from the repair kit into the scratch so that it makes contact with the underside of the fabric.

3. Iron the scratch so that the adhesive patch sticks to the vinyl upholstery.

4. Smooth out the upholstery fabric, and iron the second patch until the fabric sticks and the scratch is closed.

5. Apply the matching paint to the scratch and let dry.

Scratches on Vinyl Flooring

1. Clean the scratched area of any debris or particles using a damp cloth and a mild soap. Then apply masking tape around the edges so that the scratched surface is boxed in.

2. Use the sandpaper to smooth the edges of the scratch.

3. Mix the paints included in the vinyl flooring repair kit to match your floor color, apply the paint to your scratch and allow to dry. Make sure to wipe up any paint that spills.

4. Fill the scratch with filler powder from the repair kit, then cover the powder with a few drops of the bonding liquid. Let it harden.

5. Use the clear acrylic paint that came with the kit to coat the scratch after it has hardened. Allow it to dry for 2 to 3 hours.
