How to Create Brochures With NeoOffice for Mac

NeoOffice can be used to create standard trifold brochures through the use of document columns. A trifold brochure is created from a standard 8.5-inch-by-11-inch page printed in landscape format (or"sideways") on both sides of the page in three vertical columns. The page is then folded over twice to create a 3.67-inch-by-8.5-inch brochure.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new NeoOffice Writer document. Choose "File" > "Printer Settings" and click on the icon for landscape printing. When the window closes, you will see the margins change in your new document to represent the wider margins.

    • 2

Choose "Format" > "Columns" and select three columns. The three-column layout will appear on the blank page.

    • 3

Enter the text and graphics for your brochure out of order so that when the brochure is folded, the columns appear in the proper order. The standard brochure opens left flap first, followed by the right flap, showing three more columns in the unfolded document. The sixth column can be read only if the brochure is flipped over. With to respect these folds, on the first page enter the text and graphics for columns two, six, and one in that order; on the second page, enter the text and graphics for columns three, four, and five, in that order.

    • 4

Print one test sheet in duplex format, running the paper through the printer twice to print both sides. Pay attention to the orientation of the document when you feed in through again, so the text is not printed upside-down. Fold the test document into brochure format to ensure that the printing is correct.

    • 5

If you need only a few brochures, you can print and fold them yourself on your printer; otherwise, make a high-quality print and take it to a print and copy shop. It will be able to copy and fold your brochures as part of the print job.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't let text or graphics wrap off the bottom of the columns. It's easiest to manage a brochure if you manually manage the ends of each column and keep each one a little short of the bottom margin to prevent wrapping.
