How to File Taxes for the Self-Employed With Turbo Tax

Using Turbo Tax is one way to file taxes. This tax preparation software walks you through step by step through the tax filing process. This is especially helpful to use when filing self employed can pose as a challenge. When you are filing taxes as self-employed, you are required to add in calculations from your gross receipts or income. Turbo tax has all the information you need to help you maximize business deductions that you may not have known about.

Instructions

      Go to Turbo Tax's website at turbotax.intuit.com. Click the "Start for Free" icon under home and business about midway down the page.

      Click on "Create an Account." Follow the required fields to start up a new account. After you set up your new account, you will be rerouted to the "home and business" page.

      Click on the "Personal Info" icon at the top of the page, then click the box "I was Self-Employed" on the bottom-right of the page and click "Continue." You will be brought to a page that says "We'll help you find business deductions that help you save you extra money." Click "Continue" on this page.

      Enter in your personal information such as name, address and Social Security number, and click on the "Done with personal info" icon.

      Read the information on the page. This information tells you what Turbo Tax will help you do, such as gathering information on your previous year's income. After reading, click "Continue."

      Continue through the other pages, entering in your business data until you get to the review page. Review the information and make sure that it is correct.

      Click on the print and file icon. You will be informed how much money you owe or how much of a refund you will receive. Indicate whether you would like to electronically file your taxes or mail them. If you choose to electronically file, enter in your credit card information so that you can pay for Turbo Tax's processing fee. You will be given instructions if you choose to mail them.
