How to Make Goblet Top Drapes
Goblet pleating is a type of drapery heading that often adds elegance and style to a lined drapery. Pleated headings are particularly useful with track-type curtain rods that allow heavy draperies to be opened and closed from a single side pull or motor. These draperies can also be used with remote-control operating devices and sunlight management systems. Creating goblet pleating is easy to do with the proper materials and tools. Instructions
-
-
1
Select pre-made drapery panels that measure to 2 1/4 times the width of your window.
-
2
Cut goblet-pleated header tape 1-inch longer than the width of each drapery panel using scissors.
-
-
3
Fold 1/2-inch of the end of the header tape under. The top of the header tape should be 1/8-inch from the top of the back of the drape. Sew the folded end of the header tape to the back of the drape.
-
4
Sew the top of the header tape to the back of the top of the drape, allowing 1/8-inch from the top of the header to the top of the tape. Sew the bottom of the header tape to the back of the drape. Be sure to sew in the same direction to prevent fabric puckering.
-
5
Fold the remaining 1/2-inch of the header tape under and sew the end to the back of the drape.
-
6
Skip the first two pocket openings on the header tape. Insert the first prong of your four-prong curtain hook into the third pocket. Skip the next two pocket openings and insert the fourth prong into the sixth pocket. Skip the next two pocket openings and then insert the first prong of your next four-prong curtain hook into the next pocket. Skip two pockets and insert the fourth. Repeat across each drape.
-
7
Turn your drape face up and pinch the drape just under the header tape at the base of the wide pleats (the goblets). Sew a tacking stitch through these three pleats for the pinched look.
-
8
Hang your drapery on your curtain rod and stuff the goblet pleats with tissue to give them their upright shape.

Tips & Warnings
Some goblet header tape uses cords. Sew the header tape on. Knot the ends of the cord and pull the cords to create the goblet shape. Pinch and tack your goblets. Always use the curtain hook type that is suggested by your header manufacturer.
