Measure the perimeter of your garden or crop area with a tape measure.

Multiply the length of the area times the width of the area. Take this number and divide it by 10; 10 represents the amount of square feet suggested per red top repellent post. Purchase that number of red top repellent posts from a local store or online.

Hammer the red top repellent posts 2 1/2 inches into the ground. Hammer one post into the ground for every 10-square-foot area in your garden.

Screw the top off the red top repellent post. Install 2 AA batteries into each red top repellent post to turn them on.
