How to Correct Google Maps
Is your address inaccurately listed on Google Maps? Or maybe you just want to save your fellow citizen the hassle of traveling all the way across town only to find out that a particular establishment has either moved or gone out of business. Whatever your reason, you should learn how to report a error to the folks at Google Maps.

Reporting an Outdated Listing

Open the Google Maps website.

Find the inaccurate listing that you wish to report by typing its name and location into the blank field at the top of the screen. (For example, to find a McDonald's in Topeka, Kansas, enter "McDonald's Topeka Kansas). You may also enter an exact street address or type of business.

Click "Search Maps." A list of possible locations will now appear on the map.

Click the lettered red marker that appears above the inaccurate listing that you wish to report. A pop-up balloon will appear directly above the location within the map.

Choose the "Edit" option located in the lower portion of the pop-up balloon.

Click "Report a Problem."

Choose from the suggested list of problems or type the details of the inaccurate listing in the space provided.

Click "Report problem." Google will update the public listing with your information as soon as it verifies the updated information.
Moving the Location of a Listing

Follow steps 1-3 as above.

Click the red marker of the listing you wish to relocate.

Select the "Edit" option within the pop-up balloon.

Click the "Move marker" button.

Switch to "Satellite View" via the button in the right corner to more accurately view the location of the listing.

Zoom in close to the listing's location by using the plus or minus buttons located on the left side of the map.

Drag the marker to the appropriate location on the map.

Click "Save." Your edit will appear immediately, unless you moved the marker more than 200 meters, in which case Google will verify the move with the business owner.

Tips & Warnings
If you're a local business owner who wishes to change your existing Google Map listing, use the Google Local Business Center. Here you can add another location, change a website or delete the listing altogether.
Are you a customer who is unable to edit the listing of a business? It may be because the business owner has already verified her information with Google. Verified listings may only be changed by the owner(s).
