How to Create Art Brochures

A brochure is an ideal format for business and personal promotions of all kinds. If you are an artist who wishes to showcase your work, whether as an invitation to an opening or to sell, creating an art brochure is the perfect way to do it. It's easy to make a brochure to showcase your art, using almost any word processor or desktop publishing software and a template.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a desktop publishing application such as Serif PagePlus or Scribus. Both are free and include brochure templates. Scribus works for Mac or PC. You can also use a word processing program like Word or OpenOffice.

    • 2

Open your software, go to the "File" menu and choose the "New" option. Browse the brochure template library and select a two- or three-panel template that closely resembles the layout you want. It doesn't have to match exactly because you can modify it. Choose a template with bright colors, abstract shapes and an artsy or contemporary theme that will suit your brochure.

    • 3

Click the template you want to use to open it in your work space. Determine if the font style is the one you want. If not, left click your mouse to select the text you want to change font styles on. Go to your "Edit" menu and select the "Font" command, then choose a new font style from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Select the template placeholder text and use the "Delete" key to get rid of it, then type your own text in its place. Your text should include a short biography and a synopsis of the type of art work you do. Include contact and purchasing information as well. On the back, in a small typeface across the bottom edge of the flap, include a copyright notice.

    • 5

Click on the placeholder images in the brochure template and delete them. Use the "Insert" menu and choose "Picture," then browse to the location on your computer where your art images are located. Click on each image to insert it in your brochure. Beneath each art image, type the name of the work and the date you created it. Also include the medium, such as oil, charcoal or watercolor.

    • 6

Print on brochure paper, which is available at any office supply store. Print directly from the application you create it in by using the "File" menu and choosing "Print." The brochure will print out with lines indicating how to should fold it.
