How to Use Zotero in Safari

By Hollan Johnson

Zotero is an application that allows you to collect, organize, cite and share different research sources. The program works from your computer's browser and was originally only compatible with Firefox. However, with the release of Zotero Standalone, now use the Zotero program with the Safari web browser. While the Zotero Standalone doesn't live in the Safari browser like the original Zotero, you can connect the standalone to Safari so they can work together.

Step 1

Go to the Zotero Standalone website and download Zotero for your Mac computer. Also download the Zotero Safari connector from the same web page.

Step 2

Open the "Zotero.dmg" that mounts on your desktop. Drag the Zotero icon into the Applications folder icon in the pop-up window to install the program on your Mac.

Step 3

Double-click on the "Zotero Connector" to install Zotero in Safari. Open Zotero by double-clicking on it.

Step 4

Click on the "Z" icon on the Safari window to save a web page source into Zotero.
