How to Merge Audiobook Discs in iTunes

ITunes is a godsend for lovers of audiobooks. Even the few CDs that make up a single audiobook can be unwieldy and bulky. However, iTunes allows you to carry around a whole library of audiobooks in your pocket. Since audiobooks frequently come on a number of discs, they will be imported to your library as separate discs. This can be problematic--for example, when you are in your car and wish to listen to a section of your audiobook on another disc, but don't want to risk an accident by fiddling with your MP3 player. Thankfully, there is an easy way to merge audiobook discs using iTunes.

Instructions

    • 1

Find all the audiobook discs. Enter the name of your audiobook into the search field on iTunes. Then look on the Album Title browser at the top-right hand of the program. Select all the individual CDs from the browser by control-clicking (on a PC) or command-clicking (on an Apple).

    • 2

Highlight all the tracks from a single CD. Click the "Album" field at the top of your iTunes library to sort the audiobook discs by the title of the disc. Select all of the tracks on it by clicking the first track, pressing and holding the shift key, and then selecting the last track of the audiobook disc.

    • 3

Enter disc information. Right-click (on a PC) or control-click (on an Apple) and select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu. Another menu will pop up, called "Multiple Item Information." The third field down on the far-right side is labeled "Disc Number." Enter in the number of the disc you are working on in the first field (before "of") and the total number of discs in the second field (after "of"). Repeat this for every disc necessary.

    • 4

Rename each disc. Highlight every track from the audiobook. Right-click or command-click the selection, selecting "Get Info." When the "Multiple Item Information" menu pops up, rename the "Album" field so that all discs share the same title. This should be the title of the book, without anything like "Disc #" after. Take the time to make sure that key information, such as "Artist" and "Album Artist," is also identical. Whatever you enter in here will apply to all discs.
