How to Adjust Pixel Resolutions on the Computer

Your computer screen is made up of thousands of tiny dots called pixels. The more pixels there are, the better and crisper the resolution (appearance) of your text and graphics on the screen. Windows makes it easy to adjust the pixel resolution of your screen in just a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your computer desktop and right click the background. Select "Properties."

    • 2

Go to the "Settings" tab. Go to the middle of the dialog box to a section titled "Screen Resolution."

    • 3

Click and hold the scroll bar. Move it to the right to increase the pixel resolution (better image quality but smaller images) and to the left if you want to decrease the number of pixels per inch (less quality but bigger images).

    • 4

Go to the "Color Quality" box as well to adjust the appearance of colors on your screen. Select "Medium," "High" or the other option (the choices may vary depending on your system).

Tips & Warnings

  • The smaller your monitor size, the less resolution you should choose for an ideal picture and vice versa for larger monitors.
