1
Select the date and time for the live auction. Avoid dates of other local special events in the community that might compete for guests. Also, avoid holidays. Saturday nights are often a good night for an auction. Keep in mind that you need about three months to adequately prepare for the auction.
-
2
Find an ideal location for the auction. The room should have bright enough lighting to help guests easily see the auction pieces. You will need a facility that can hold around 200 people.

3
Sale ad space in the auction catalog. This is another good way to raise money for a nonprofit organization. Ask businesses in the community to buy ad space in the catalog and also seek auction item donations.
-
4
Print a live auction catalog and tickets. Take digital pictures of each auction item to place in the catalog. Include a pleasant description of each item to lure buyers.
-
5
Distribute a live auction catalog and tickets for the auction. Spread the word about the auction in a variety of ways. Call potential guests and invite your friends. Mail catalogs to those who show interest. Distribute some catalogs at the public library and local grocery store.

6
Set up the room before the auction. Organize chairs in rows facing the podium. There should be at least 200 chairs. Also, set up about 20 rectangular tables with cloths on them. Sit auction items on the tables for viewing. Have the room ready three hours early for guests to browse as they arrive.
