Instructions

    • 1

Fold a sheet of standard letter-sized paper horizontally. Use card stock paper. Standard letter size has dimensions of 8.5 inches by 11 inches. When making the fold, press the paper onto a flat surface such as a desk or table. Rub your fingers up and down the fold to make a firm crease.

    • 2

Place a piece of cardboard inside the folded paper. The cardboard prevents ink from bleeding through the paper.

    • 3

Position the card so that the folded edge is vertical and on the left side. Write "Happy Birthday" on the cover of the card using markers. Write the message towards the top of the card. Fonts.com lists 300 different fonts as being masculine in style. Many of them are bold, thick and stout. Imitate these fonts with your markers.

    • 4

Draw objects on the front that the birthday boy associates with his favorite hobbies and interests. If he enjoys football, draw a football or the helmet of his favorite team. If he enjoys cigars, draw a cigar with smoke coming from the burning tip. Make the objects look realistic by using the appropriate colors and details. Include at least three objects.

    • 5

Write a brief birthday wish on the inside of the card. First, remove the cardboard from the inside. Use a marker or calligraphy pen to write a brief, but thoughtful message. "Enjoy your day! Save me a seat in your man cave!" is a possible manly message for the inside of the card.

Preserve the memory of the card-giving by signing and dating the inside of the card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of plain white paper, use a light gray.

  • Use markers that are gray, blue or black or the colors of a favored sports team.
