How to Change the Headlamp in a Chrysler Sebring

Introduced by Chrysler Corp. in 1995, the Chrysler Sebring (not to be confused with the Maserati Sebring) features halogen headlamps. The capsulated headlamps include access to the bulb assembly at the back. Depending on the year and model series of the Sebring, your vehicle may feature one headlamp that doubles as a high-beam and a low-beam unit or it may feature separate headlamps that act as their own component.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the position of the faulty headlamp and make sure the headlight switch is in the off position.

    • 2

Open the hood to the Chrysler Sebring and approach the headlight assembly with the faulty headlamp.

    • 3

Look behind the assembly to see if you have access to the headlamp without removing the headlight assembly. If not, proceed to Step 7.

    • 4

Remove the two upper headlight assembly screws. Depending on the year and model series, this may require a ratchet and socket or a screwdriver set.

    • 5

Remove the upper fascia retainers, if applicable, by prying them out with a flat-bladed trim tool.

    • 6

Pull the headlight assembly out from the fender side first to unseat the guide pin ball socket of the assembly. Be careful not to scratch the lens, fender or bumper. Pull the assembly from the grill side next.

    • 7

Unclip the wire harness connection to the headlamp socket.

    • 8

Turn the headlamp retaining collar or cover (depending on the year and model series) counterclockwise until it releases from the headlight assembly.

    • 9

Insert the replacement bulb (without touching the glass bulb of the headlamp; the oils in the skin of your fingers will create a weak spot on the bulb) into the collar (or directly into the assembly depending on year and model series) and then align the tabs of the collar or cover to the grooves in the headlight assembly housing.

    • 10

Turn the collar or cover clockwise until it locks into place in the assembly. On the black covers, the word "Top" should appear on the top of the cover if positioned correctly.

    • 11

Reattach the wire harness to the headlamp. If you've removed the headlight assembly, test the headlights to ensure the headlamp is working before replacing the headlight assembly. Replace the headlight assembly by reversing the removal procedure.
