How to Change Outlook Express Compact Mail Settings

Microsoft Outlook Express can be used to download emails from the mail server onto your desktop. You do need to visit the Web server by using a Web browser. Similarly, you can send emails to others directly from Outlook Express. Outlook Express sends these emails to your mail servers, which are then sent to the recipient. The downloaded emails are compacted from time-to-time to save space and to make Outlook Express faster.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Tools" menu in the Outlook Express window and then click on "Options."

    • 2

Click on the "Maintenance" tab in the Options dialog box that opens.

    • 3

Click to select/unselect the "Delete read message bodies in newsgroup" option below "When compacting messages." Similarly, click to select/deselect the "Delete new messages days after being downloaded" option.
