How to Troubleshoot Word 2007 Cover Page

Whether you are writing a high school book report, a college research paper or an annual budget report for your company, a cover page will make your document look more professional. Microsoft Word 2007 makes inserting a cover page into your document very simple, though you will have to experiment to find exactly the cover page you want for your document.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Insert" tab at the top of the Microsoft Word 2007 window. On the left-hand side of the "Insert" tab, click on the button labeled "Cover Page." Browse the cover page options. If you see one you think you like, click on it. The cover page will appear at the top of your document. If you dislike it upon closer inspection, simply click the "Cover Page" button again and select "Remove Current Cover Page." If you are satisfied with your selection, however, proceed to Step 2. If you are unable to find any cover page that you like, proceed to Step 4.

Edit the cover page to your liking. Make sure to fill in all relevant fields, such as your name and the document title. If a particular field is irrelevant to your purposes, simply fill it in with other information (for example, a cell phone number instead of a fax number) or right-click on the field and select "Remove Content Control" to delete it altogether. You can edit the cover page as much as you like, such as by changing the font size.

Some pre-made cover pages come with photographs (such as the cover page called "Exposure") or other images (as in the cover page labeled "Mod"). These images can be adjusted or deleted to suit your needs. To delete an image, simply click on it and press the delete key on your keyboard. To adjust it or to replace it with a new image entirely, click on it. A new tab labeled "Format" will appear at the top of the Word window; click on it. On this tab, you can change the look and placement of an image, including editing its color and its orientation. If you want to use an image of your own, click "Change Picture" on the left-hand side of the Format tab and select a picture from your computer.

If you cannot find a pre-made cover page that you like, make a simpler one of your own. Click on the "Insert" tab at the top of the Word window, then click at the very top of your document so that your blinker is located in the top-left corner of your document, before any words you may have typed. On the left-hand side of the "Insert" tab, click on the button labeled "Blank Page." This will insert a blank page at the top of your document. You can format the page exactly as you like, including inserting pictures if relevant, such as your company's logo.
