How to Make an Event Planning Brochure

Designing a brochure for your event planning business allows you to highlight the types of services your company offers. A brochure that provides details to potential clients can also help you set your company apart from competitors. Creating your own event planning brochure isn't a particularly difficult task, but you will need access to a quality graphics program to create a professional-looking brochure.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a template on paper. This can be advantageous as it will provide you with a rough draft of your ideas for later refinement in a graphics program. Select any photos or other graphics you want to incorporate in your brochure's design. Gather all information that must be included in your brochure. If you have yet to create descriptions of services or pricing information, for example, do so before you begin laying out your template. Creating a template also will help you understand the space you have to work with.

    • 2

Find a program that fits your skill level with graphics programs and works best with your particular budget. If you're just starting your new event planning business and can't afford a program such as Photoshop, consider a freeware program such as GIMP, which can do many of the same things as the more expensive programs on the market.

    • 3

Open a new document in the program you choose by going to "File" in the menu. Then scroll down to "New" and click on it. After creating a name for your document, select a background type. For a brochure, a white background generally works best. Next, pick the dimensions for your brochure; if you're using standardized brochure printing paper, plug these numbers into the dialog box provided. Then enter in your resolution requirement; 300 pixels is preferable for printing documents such as brochures to achieve a quality product.

    • 4

Open any photos or other graphics you need to include in your brochure's design. These graphics will be placed on their own layers while elements you create within the program (i.e., text, graphics such as your drawings) will need to be placed on layers you add. To do this, click on "New Layer" in the "Layers Panel." While you don't have to place elements separately on layers, by doing so you make the job of editing your design much easier.

    • 5

Design your event planning brochure by utilizing the tools, setting adjustments and filters in the program. Add your text by selecting the "Text" tool. Select a font style that best fits your design.

    • 6

Use the "Copy and "Paste" function under "Edit" to place the images in the main document. Use the "Move" tool to move your photos and text where you want them. Change the size of your elements, or apply various effects to them, if you choose. Experiment with the tools to get a better sense of the options available to you in creating your design.

    • 7

Save your brochure as a high resolution JPEG. Save an additional copy if you plan to have your brochure printed by a professional printing service. Opt to have your brochures printed by a print shop or an office supply store, or print the brochures yourself by purchasing brochure paper and enough ink to print the desired quantity.
