How to Obtain a Copy of a HS Diploma

A high school diploma is proof that you graduated. While this diploma doesn't carry the same weight as a college diploma when applying to some jobs, others specifically state that you must be a high school graduate. Whether your diploma is buried in the back of a closet somewhere in your home or you simply lost it, not having a copy of your high school diploma can spell trouble.

      Call the high school the you graduated from. It is very likely that they will still have your diploma on file. Find the phone number for your high school by doing an Internet search for either the name of the high school in quotes or the name of the school district, also in quotes.

      Contact the school district that the high school is situated in if the school that you attended no longer has a copy of your diploma or if the high school that you attended is no longer in operation. The school district is usually determined by the county or parish where the high school is located.

      Fill out and submit any forms that the school or district directs you to and pay the required fee, if one exists.

  • If your need for a duplicate diploma is for a college or an employer, consider simply getting a copy of your high school transcript. They are often cheaper and are more official for proving that you graduated form high school.
