How to Clean Silver With Vinegar
Silver is notorious for becoming dull and losing its shine when handled regularly. There are many silver polishes available, but they often contain man-made chemicals. Fortunately, there are a few natural alternatives that are easy on both your wallet and the environment. One of most effective alternatives is vinegar, a mild acetic acid that polishes silver and other metals. A little goes a long way and the process only takes 15 to 25 minutes to complete. Things You'll Need
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white vinegar
- ¼ cup flour
- Bowl
- Water
- Metal polishing cloth

Mix 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup of white vinegar and ¼ cup of flour in a bowl. The mixture should make a thin paste that is easily spreadable. Flour does not have cleaning properties, but it is necessary for making a paste.

Spread the mixture over the silver with your fingers and let it sit for 15 minutes. The acid in the vinegar will soak into the pores of the silver to remove all traces of dirt, dust and grime.

Rinse the paste off of the silver with warm water. Be sure to remove all of the paste as residual salt granules may cause scratches.

Rub the silver in a circular motion with a soft metal polishing cloth for five to 10 minutes.
