Instructions

    • 1

Pick up any solid pieces of dog feces while wearing protective gloves or by wrapping them up with paper towels. If the mess is dry, vacuum it.

    • 2

If there is any moisture, blot up as much as you can with paper towels. Do not rub at the stain, or you risk working it deeper into your carpet. Blot starting at the outside of the stain and work your way in.

    • 3

Soak paper towels in clean water and wring them out slightly; the towels should be wet but not dripping. Rinse the stain by blotting water into the area. Blot again with dry paper towels to clean up excess moisture.

    • 4

Mix 1/2 cup of peroxide with a teaspoon of dish detergent.

    • 5

Pour the peroxide/detergent mixture onto the stained area. Work the cleaning mixture into the carpet well with either gloved hands or a carpet scrub brush. This mixture removes the smell.

    • 6

Blot up excess moisture with paper towels. Place paper towels over the stain; stand on them or cover them with heavy books to allow the most moisture to be soaked up. Large stains can take up to six hours to dry completely.

    • 7

Vacuum the dry area to remove any residual cleaning products.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dog messes that have had time to dry can stick to your carpet, and the smell is harder to eliminate.

  • Always use fresh hydrogen peroxide for the most effective smell removal.

  • If the peroxide/detergent mixture does not eliminate the smell completely, shake baking soda over the area, then pour the mixture on and work into the carpet.

  • Spot test your cleaning solutions on a small, inconspicuous area of your carpet before applying to the stain to be sure the cleaner does not damage or discolor the carpet.
