1
Scrape at dried oil-based paint with a putty knife on one corner only. Do not try to actually scrape off the entire area of paint, as this can mar the floor beyond repair. Simply insert the edge of the putty knife under the edge of the paint and begin to exert minimal pressure. This should raise the edge of the paint, and all oil based paints will peel off in a sheet rather than in pieces. Wet the magic sponge and wring out in the sink, and then gently glide over the painted area to remove any residual oils from the paint.

2
Remove water-based paint from linoleum floors by wetting the magic sponge and rubbing over the area with a bit of force. If the paint is fresh and not all the way dried, this will completely remove the paint with one swipe from the sponge. If the paint is dried, scrub for about 30 seconds and rinse the sponge out. Wring it out well and go over the entire affected area once more to remove any residual paint that is left on the floor.

Scrape the corner of either type of paint with a putty knife to lift the edge if it will not peel all the way off. Insert the edge of the putty knife under the paint and pry upward with minimal force. This will help to raise the paint, and if you are unable to peel it away, soak the area with water from the sponge and then wait for five minutes. Begin pulling at the corner to completely remove the paint from the floor.
