Instructions

    • 1

Wash the rice in a bowl. Discard the water, but keep rinsing the rice lightly until the discarded water is clear.

    • 2

Add 3 1/2 cups of water for every 2 cups of rice to a nonstick saucepan. Put the saucepan on the stove over medium high heat.

    • 3

Let the water come to a boil, then add the rice. Lower the heat so the water does not boil over.

    • 4

Add 1 tsp. of canola oil to the boiling rice and give it one gentle stir. Add a dash of salt or a few drops of lemon juice. Let the rice cook for 12 minutes.

    • 5

After 12 minutes, remove a grain of rice and mash it on a plate. If the grain is how you like your rice, go ahead and strain all of the rice. Let the rice sit in the strainer for 5 minutes before serving it.

Tips & Warnings

  • This method produces starch free rice. For a starched version, reduce the water quantity by 1/2 a cup and don't strain the boiled rice.
